The BYD Qin Max sedan is now officially available for Chinese customers, offering ultra-fast charging, long range-electric and a full suite of driver-assistance systems at an aggressive price. Launched at 99,900 yuan ($ 14,700) and sitting at the top of the range, the new Qin Max sedan is BYD’s latest entry in the popular Qin family and is targeted at young buyers and blue-sky families, and digit-grenaders. The Qin Max is available as a DM-i plug-in hybrid or fully electric EV in 9 variants.
Prices range from 99,900 yuan ($20,798) to 143,900 yuan ($29,899). The launch adds to the existing Qin lineup which include the Qin Plus and Qin L. Leading the highlights is the EV model with its second-generation Blade Battery as well as by far the world’s fastest Flash Charging BYD Tech.
Based on BYD, a vehicle with a compatible model can go from 10% to 70% in about five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in only nine minutes under optimal conditions. Such a charging speed may help ease one of the biggest concerns of future EV buyersthe time needed for a battery to recharge. Given the version, full-electric Qin Max can have CLTC driving ranges up to 630 kilometres.
When it comes to the drive motors, customers are free to select between a unit that generates at best 120 kW or 240 k W making up to 322 hp. Based on BYD, the fastest EV version is able to perform from standstill to 100 km/h in only 5.8 seconds.
Quite common in Europe and America, BYD will also launch the Qin Max DM-i plug-in hybrid for customers who want to enjoy electric and petrol power. The measure includes a 1.5-liter atmospheric petrol engine and an electric motor, and offers up to 320 km electric range and 2,370 km combined range by fully filling both battery and fuel tank for the reported measures.
The new sedan is again bigger than the Qin L, consolidating the car as the flagship member of the family. The Qin Max measures in at 4,866 mm 1 880 mm wide and 1,495 mm high, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. The car is bigger to allow a bigger cabin, and offers 523 litres of trunks space that can be expanded to 1,450 litres.
Finally, the technology is another key area. Higher specs can come with God’s Eye B driver-assistance system from BYD, which is built with the LiDAR and supports functions such as urban and highway assistant and auto parking features. The Qin Max also come with BYD’s built-in AI assistant – Didi Xia while some variants are also equipped with DiSus-C intelligent damping body-control system.
Outside, the Qin Max adopts a contemporary and minimalist style. The cabin receives a floating centrally-mounted touchscreen display, a switchgear lever and a new low-saturation Dawn Purple interior colour choice. Clearly, BYD has set out with the goal of making the sedan have a much more youthful personality, while also keeping the usefulness that is to be expected.
